E. Gail Horton, PhD, MSW is Professor Emeritus in the Sandler School of Social Work at Florida Atlantic University. Until her retirement in 2020, she taught courses in human behavior, chemical dependency, the use of mindfulness in social work practice, practice with children and adolescence, social welfare policy, and other classes to undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, she practiced psychotherapy in Florida for 27 years, addressing mental health issues in children, adolescents and adults, and as a Qualified Supervisor for the State of Florida, she provided supervision to individuals seeking state licensure.

Dr. Horton’s research and scholarly interests focus on the effects of spirituality and attachment issues on depressive symptoms among individuals with substance use issues. She has numerous publications in scholarly journals on these topics and has presented at both national and international conferences. Her book Attachment and neurobiology: Preconception to young adulthood was published in 2020 (San Diego, CA: Cognella) and is now being used in human behavior courses across the United
States. She is currently writing a book entitled: I Can't Remember, Did I have a Good Time? Five basic concepts explaining the HOW? and WHY ME? of addiction.
